Glen Aulin Lodge – YNP

The main building at Glen Aulin is a large tent. In this tent – like all of the high-sierra camps (or at least the 2 that i’ve been to) – a lot of things take place.
When you arrive at camp you walk into this tent and check in with the camp manager (Tim). He offers you a cup of lemonade and talks for a little while about the schedule around camp, meal time, bears etc… Right behind this tent is the old fireplace that they used to cook so many years ago. If you want to you can eat some leftover cake from the night before in this tent – as long as you have a couple of quarters to drop in the tip jar. You can buy some camp necessities at the desk, including candy bars if the mule train has happened to come by recently, and you can pick up an old magazine to read, or leave one that you brought (if you felt like carrying a magazine in that many miles). Before meals you can come over to this tent and enjoy some coffee, tea or hot chocolate and talk with other camp residents.
Most importantly though this tent is where the food is cooked and where the food is served, immediately following the ringing of this big old triangle.
